What it is
Southeast Michigan Riichi is a Japanese Riichi mahjong club in the Detroit / Ann Arbor, MI metro. It is not American Mah Jongg. The first-party site (semiriichi.github.io) says the club started in 2009 in Plymouth, now meets in Ann Arbor (University of Michigan campus), Livonia, Royal Oak, Detroit (Wayne State campus), and other named venues, and that all meetups are open to the public — you do not have to be an enrolled student. About Us: most members play casually; some play in the American Riichi Mahjong League. New players, including people who only know American or Hong Kong mahjong, are welcome.
Who it’s for
Riichi players and beginners in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Livonia, Royal Oak, Ypsilanti, and Lake Orion who want a free public club table. This is not a ticketed American parlor.

Q: Is this American Mah Jongg?
A: No. SEMI is a Japanese Riichi club. About Us says people who have only played American or Hong Kong mahjong are welcome if they want to learn Riichi.
Q: Do I have to be a UM or Wayne State student?
A: No. The homepage says all meetups are open to the public and being an enrolled student is not required.
Q: Where and when do they play, and what does it cost?
