What it is

JCC Rochester Mah Jongg is the first-party Mah Jongg Club at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester: Tuesday open play in the Erdle Lounge for people who already know the game. A separate beginner class page on the same site teaches American Mah Jongg under NMJL rules. It is a JCC program, not Japanese Riichi and not a commercial parlor.

Who it’s for

Rochester players who want a printed JCC drop-in (bring your own card; no instructor at the club) or the dated beginner series, distinct from other Plaza JCC listings.

Why it’s listed

This is a first-party JCC page with a street address, a weekly play window, and a separate American Mah Jongg beginner class. It is not a MahjongFinder card, and it is not one of the other JCC programs already on Plaza.

  • Mah Jongg Club (https://jccrochester.org/events/mahjongg-club/) loaded on 2026-09-22. Heading Mah Jongg Club. Schedule printed: Tuesdays, 10:00am–12pm, Erdle Lounge. Rules on that page include: all skill levels welcome; please know how to play; please bring your own card; there are no instructors; this is for play only; bring a set if you have one because the JCC has a limited number of sets; registration is not required but players sign in; no food or beverages on the mah jongg mats. The page’s group-norms block names The Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester.
  • Same page, dated occurrence: Tuesday, Sep 29 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Erdle Lounge. Organizer: Julie Crawford, email jcrawford@lifespan-roch.org. Site chrome: (585) 461-2000, membership@jccrochester.org, The William & Mildred Levine Bldg, 1200 Edgewood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618.
  • Beginner class, separate URL (https://jccrochester.org/events/mahjongg-oct2026/) the same day: title American Mah Jongg for Beginners, stamp This class is full. Copy: for people who have never played; official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules plus common local house rules. Four sessions when you register: October 1, October 8, October 15, and October 22, 10:00am–12:00pm, TechAge Room. Pre-registration required. No drop-ins. No make up classes. Instructors named on the page: Richard Collier-Morris and John Kinnicutt (both say they learned American Mah Jongg at the Brighton senior center in 2019). Same building address and phone as the club page.

The September 29 club row and the “class is full” stamp are what those pages showed on the check date. They can change.
