What it is
Las Vegas Mahjong is a dedicated American Mah Jongg studio inside Lucky Hare in Las Vegas, NV. Founder Shauna’s homepage says she became a certified Oh My Mahjong instructor in 2025 and turned that into Las Vegas Mahjong. The site FAQ names the house game as American Mahjong, played with the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card. Lessons (MAHJ101 / 102 / 103), Social Open Play, and special events are ticketed on the first-party schedule. It is not Japanese Riichi and it is not Chinese Mahjong as the house game.
Who it’s for
Anyone in the Las Vegas Valley (the homepage names locals, transplants, visitors, and newcomers; private lessons can travel to Henderson, Summerlin, and beyond) who wants a bookable American / NMJL studio — a beginner lesson, two-hour open play, or a dated grand-opening / anniversary session — rather than a rec-center drop-in. Distinct from Japanese Riichi tables. The Jewish Nevada JCC adult-programs page also names Shauna Bruckman / Las Vegas Mahjong as the facilitator for Monday Night Mah Jongg at the JCC of Southern Nevada; that is a separate JCC table, not the Lucky Hare studio.
Why it’s listed
This is a first-party studio site with a printed street address, a live 2026 Class & Open Play Schedule, and Bookwhen tickets for dated play this week, not a scraped directory card. As of 2026-09-01 it is the clearest dedicated American Mah Jongg studio in Las Vegas with dated play today.

- Mahj 101 Bookwhen tickets on the check date: $60.00. Copy: “Brand new to American Mahjong? The 9/3 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. ticket was fully booked (waitlist) when checked. Homepage FAQ: MAHJ101 is for absolute beginners; MAHJ102 picks up where 101 left off.
- Schedule also printed later September dates, including Social Open Play on 9/8, 9/10, 9/11, 9/15, 9/22, 9/24, 9/25, more 101/102/103 lessons, and Las Vegas Mahjong Turns 1!! Notes
- American Mah Jongg / NMJL. Not Riichi. Homepage FAQ: “We teach American Mahjong, played with the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card.” Open-play and Grand Opening tickets tell you to bring a 2026 NMJL card. Do not treat this as Japanese Riichi or as a Chinese-family (Hong Kong / MCR) club.
- Confirm the current slot list on https://www.lasvegasmahj.com/schedule and the Bookwhen ticket before treating any week as fixed. There is no walk-in hours table; play is ticketed by date. Bookwhen: advance registration required.
- Grand Opening tickets require basic knowledge. True beginners are pointed to MAHJ101. Homepage FAQ: tiles, racks, and extras of NMJL cards are provided for lessons; “just yourself” if you do not already have a card.
- Homepage FAQ: you can come solo to open play. Private lessons and parties are “reach out for pricing” — do not invent those fees.
- Not affiliated with Mahjong Plaza.
FAQ
Q: Is this Japanese Riichi or Chinese Mahjong?
A: No. The first-party FAQ says they teach American Mahjong with the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card. Mahj 101 copy is “Brand new to American Mahjong?” Open-play tickets tell you to bring a 2026 NMJL card, not a Riichi or Hong Kong expectation.
Q: When and where do they play?
A: Fixed studio inside Lucky Hare, 8687 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 200, Las Vegas, NV 89117. The Schedule page on 2026-09-01 listed Grand Opening 2026-09-01, 6:00–8:30 p.m. Pacific, and 2026-09-02, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; Mahj 101 on 2026-09-03, 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.; and Social Open Play on 2026-09-04, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Check https://www.lasvegasmahj.com/schedule for the date you want. The 9/1 Grand Opening and 9/3 Mahj 101 tickets were fully booked (waitlist) on the check date.
Q: Do I have to know how to play, and what does it cost?
A: True beginners start with Mahj 101 ($60.00 on the check date); the FAQ says MAHJ101 starts from scratch and you play a hand in the first lesson. Social Open Play is $20.00 for two hours and asks you to bring a 2026 NMJL card. Grand Opening was $40.00 and required basic knowledge plus a 2026 NMJL card. Book on the official schedule / Bookwhen ticket; do not walk in.
