What it is
Arizona Riichi Mahjong (AZRM) is a Tempe, Arizona Japanese Riichi club with recurring public tables in the Phoenix metro (Tempe), Tucson, and Sierra Vista. It is not American Mah Jongg. The club’s About page says there are no annual memberships, fees, or obligations, and that you do not need to bring equipment. It is listed with the American Riichi Association (6 players, Tempe, on the portal at last check).
Who it’s for
Anyone in Arizona who wants Japanese Riichi — the site says beginners through experts. The Tempe table is a registered ASU student club but is open to the general public; you do not need an ASU affiliation. Distinct from American / NMJL civic tables.
Why it’s listed
This is a first-party club site with named venues and printed meeting times, not a scraped directory card. As of 2026-08-23 it is the clearest Riichi table in the Phoenix / Tempe area.
- Locations of record live on the About page (
/about/#locations). The Events page points there rather than reprinting a dated calendar. - A first-party news post dated 2026-08-20 (“Tempe Location Resumes September 2nd”) says Fall 2026 stays at Durham Hall L1-30 (they will not move to the MU this semester) and that the first official Tempe session is 2026-09-02.
- Tucson and Sierra Vista times are printed on the same About page, with a note that those times can change and to check Discord.

Location
Primary (Phoenix metro): ASU Tempe — Durham Hall, Room L1-30, 851 S Cady Mall, Tempe, AZ 85282. About-page directions: downstairs to basement L1, then south; L1-30 is on the east side of the hallway.
Also printed on the same page:
- Tucson: Arcanum Sanctorum, 3994 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705. Sundays 2:00 pm.
- Sierra Vista: The Rising Sun Games, 1299 E Fry Blvd Ste D, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635. Tuesdays 4:30 pm.
Notes
- Tempe meetings on the About page: every Wednesday at 5:00 pm, resuming 2026-09-02. Parking note on that page: downtown Tempe parking is limited and can be expensive.
- Tucson and Sierra Vista: “times are subject to change, so please check our Discord for updates.” Do not treat those two as locked without that check.
- The ARA blurb is thinner than the club site (it mentions ASU Wednesdays and Sundays in Tucson). Use azriichi.org for locations.
- This is Japanese Riichi, not American Mah Jongg.
- Not affiliated with Mahjong Plaza.
