What it is

Levite JCC Birmingham Mahjong Open Play is the recurring Thursday open-play series on the Levite Jewish Community Center (LJCC) official calendar at bhamjcc.org. It is free public table time for intermediate/advanced players, with tiles and cards provided. Its main identity for this listing is local open play / community tables, not an equipment shop and not a national digital multiplayer server.

Who it’s for

Birmingham / central Alabama players who want a citeable weekly open-play seat at a JCC. Birmingham is unused on disk. Existing local-group coverage skews toward other JCC calendars and larger metros (Boston/North Shore, Seattle Stroum JCC, SF, Dallas, Charlotte, Tampa, Nashville, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Omaha, Denver Mile High, Phoenix, San Diego, Austin, Atlanta, Marin, Minneapolis, etc.).

Why it’s listed

The plaza needs a real unused-metro open-play listing with address, times, and printed free/public terms — geographic diversity vs Monday’s Omaha club pick (and without stacking another Denver page beside Mile High Mahjong).

Event series page (https://bhamjcc.org/series/mahjong-open-play-2/) returned 200 on 2026-09-29 under “Mahjong open play - Levite Jewish Community Center.” The October 2026 month view listed recurring Thursday sessions 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM, including Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and November/December Thursdays through at least Dec 3, 2026.
Event instance (https://bhamjcc.org/events/mahjong-open-play/2026-10-01/) returned 200. Details: October 1 @ 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM, series Mahjong open play. On-page bullets: “Free and open to the public”; “For intermediate/advanced players”; “Titles and cards provided” (site wording; treat as tiles/cards provided). Footer venue: Levite Jewish Community Center, 3960 Montclair Rd, Birmingham, AL 35213, (205) 879-0411.
Event instance (https://bhamjcc.org/events/mahjong-open-play/2026-10-08/) returned 200 with the same free/public, intermediate/advanced, titles-and-cards, Thursday 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM details for October 8.
Site search for mahjong also surfaced related LJCC programming (beginner classes, Mahjong & Mimosas socials) — secondary to this open-play listing. Check the live calendar for class dates if you need beginner instruction instead of intermediate open play.

Dates and policies can change — confirm the live series page before you travel. Beginners should note the intermediate/advanced framing on the event pages.

Notes

Local groups / open game play: recurring Thursday LJCC tables. Beginner classes exist on the same site but are secondary for this listing; Motor City Mahjong (same wave) covers a teacher-first Learning page in another metro.
Event copy says “Titles and cards provided” — quote the site wording; practically means tiles/cards are available.
