What it is

PlayMahjong.io is a first-party browser table for four-player Chinese Official / Competition Mahjong online: play with friends, practice against bots, or join matchmaking. It is social multiplayer software — not a solitaire tile-matching puzzle and not an Amazon SKU.

Who it’s for

Home and club players who want a citeable online Chinese Official (MCR / Competition) table with bots and matchmaking, rather than a live ranked server already on disk (Mahjong Soul, Tenhou, Riichi City, Mahjongg4Fun, Mahj Parlour, HeyMahjong Multiplayer, Amatsuki, iTaiwan, etc.).

Why it’s listed

Plaza needs an unused multiplayer / social home-game slot with a real first-party product URL and citeable rules / update copy.

• Homepage (https://playmahjong.io/) returned 200 on 2026-09-24. Headline: “Play Chinese Mahjong Online!” Body: “Catch up with friends and family by playing a game of Chinese Mahjong online. Practice against bots or join matchmaking to compete with others.” Primary CTAs: Play Online and Play Against Bots. Footer links: Terms of Service, Privacy Policy.
• How-to-play guide (https://playmahjong.io/how-to-play) returned 200 the same day. Copy frames Mahjong as a 4-player game and names the All-China Sports Federation international standard as Competition Mahjong / National Standard Mahjong; walks through wall, round, hand, prevalent/seat winds, suits/honors/flowers, Chow/Pung/Kong/Pair, and turn/discard actions.
• Chinese Official scoring rules (https://playmahjong.io/chinese-official-rules) returned 200. States the site uses Chinese Official Scoring maintained by the World Mahjong Association / used in the World Mahjong Championship; a hand needs at least 8 points to win; “When playing on PlayMahjong.io, the winning player automatically gets the maximum possible scoring for their hand.”
• Updates page (https://playmahjong.io/updates) returned 200 with product history including Advanced Bots, matchmaking ready-check, option to play against bots while waiting in matchmaking, guest registration, Discord community bot, and custom-match minimum-points settings (entries dated through September 1st 2021 on the page checked).

Feature availability and account requirements can change. Confirm the live playmahjong.io pages before relying on a specific mode.

FAQ

A: Yes. On 2026-09-24 the homepage invited players to catch up with friends and family online, with separate entry points for online play and bot practice, plus matchmaking copy on the same page and updates history.

Q: Which ruleset does it use?
A: The official scoring page describes Chinese Official / Competition Mahjong (World Mahjong Association standard), including an 8-point minimum to win and automatic maximum scoring on PlayMahjong.io.

Q: Is this mahjong solitaire?
A: No. The how-to-play guide frames the product as four-player table Mahjong with walls, discards, and scoring — not single-player tile matching.
