What it is
Mahjong Tide is a free Mahjong Solitaire game that runs in a web browser, made by independent developer Sylvain Gravejat in France. You clear layered boards by matching free tiles in pairs. The game pairs its puzzles with public-domain art: clearing boards unlocks paintings, and its Journey mode follows Hiroshige’s 55 stations of the Tokaido road.
Who it’s for
Solo tile-matching fans who want an unhurried game with no countdown, and friends who want to share or race on a board.
Why it’s listed
It is a solo tile-matching game, not four-player mahjong. The home, about and press pages describe the modes and the developer.
- Flow: an endless run of compact boards, designed first for phones; each cleared Wave leads straight to the next.
- Daily Art: one shared daily puzzle in four sizes (Mini, Small, Medium, Full); clearing any size unlocks the day’s painting.
- The Journey: 55 stations along the Tokaido, collecting Hiroshige’s series.
- Free play: hundreds of layouts, unlimited deals and a layout editor.
- Multiplayer: private tables where friends take turns on one board (Together) or race on the same starting board (Race).
- Honest boards: every deal starts from a real solution; the game tells you when a move has made the board unwinnable rather than secretly reshuffling, and offers hints and undo.
- Languages: 15, including English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

Notes
- Side game: Mahjong Solitaire, a different game from American, Hong Kong or riichi mahjong; there is no NMJL card.
- Free, no account needed: every mode works without signing in; an optional account (email or Google sign-in) syncs progress across devices. No ad scripts were seen in the pages fetched.
- Distinct from: Plum Mahjong (Monday) and Mahjong Garden (Friday), other Mahjong Solitaire games; Mahjong Tide’s hook is its art gallery and Tokaido journey.
- Not exercised: the game and multiplayer tables were not played; the multiplayer page loads its content with JavaScript and is not cited.
- Image: the site’s own og:image (multiplayer share card), 1200×630, saved as

FAQ

Q: Is this real mahjong?
A: No. It is Mahjong Solitaire, a single-player matching puzzle that uses mahjong tiles.
