What it is

Sloperama (Tom Sloper’s Mah-Jongg FAQs) is a long-running free mah-jongg FAQ, history, strategy column, and public Q&A board by Tom Sloper. It covers American (NMJL) and Asian rule families. It is not a shop and not a 4-player server.

Who it’s for

Players who need to identify a rule set, read this year’s NMJL card, identify a set, or look up history, etiquette, or teaching notes — across American and Asian styles.

Why it’s listed

This is the long-form reference site, not another lifestyle brand. A directory that covers American-card questions has to point here.

  • The hub indexes FAQs 0–28 (basics, books, computer games, Rosetta Stone terms, tiles/sets, strategy, etiquette, history, solitaire vs 4-player, NMJL card, HKOS, Chinese Official scoring, teaching tips, and more).
  • FAQ 16 is a dedicated 2026 NMJL Card page. It walks the card section by section (2026, 2468, Any Like Numbers, Quints, Consecutive Run, 13579, Winds-Dragons, 369, Singles & Pairs) and links older cards back to 2001.
  • Strategy column #815, dated 2026-03-22, is about the 2026 card (“almost two weeks early”).
  • Q&A bulletin board: questions by email; answers posted publicly. The hub also links Find Players / Sets / Tiles / Accessories boards.
  • Book page for The Red Dragon & The West Wind: errata file updated 2026-03-15. The same page says the author “lives in Upstate New York.”
  • FAQ 16 footer: “Copyright 2026 Tom Sloper… This site is not associated with the National Mah Jongg League.”

Notes

  • Reference site, not a shop or a live table.
  • Public Q&A: the hub says emailed questions may be posted.
  • The framed hub page still shows “© 2000-2021” and notes leftover HTTPS/frame issues from the 2020 HTTPS switch.
  • Not associated with the National Mah Jongg League (FAQ 16 footer).
  • Not affiliated with Mahjong Plaza.
