What it is

Lara’s Mahjong Edit is a first-party American Mah Jongg (NMJL-card) teaching brand: live Zoom classes, self-paced 2026-card strategy guides, a monthly Confidence Club, and a separate Teacher Edit path. Founder Lara Orndorff. It is not Japanese Riichi, not Chinese table mahjong, not the National Mah Jongg League, and not a 4-player public game server.

Who it’s for

People who want to learn or improve American Mah Jongg online (live Zoom or self-paced guides), and instructors who want that brand’s teacher curriculum. Distinct from Riichi teaching sites and from local JCC drop-in pages.

Why it’s listed

This is a named US instructor with her own school site and dated 2026-card classes on the official catalog — not a Facebook-only teacher and not a local-group calendar.

• Homepage (https://larasmahjongedit.com/) on 2026-09-03: “Learn American mahjong without the overwhelm.” Banner: “Your 2026 Card Command Center Is Live.” Copy: American Mahjong is “the card-driven version of the game played in the United States”; “a four-player strategy game played with a 152-tile set”; “If you have only ever seen mahjong as a phone game where you match tiles to clear a board, this is not that.” Differs from Chinese and Hong Kong mahjong by the NMJL card, the Joker, and the Charleston. Footer © 2026 Lara’s Mahjong Edit. Confidence Club printed on that homepage at $19.99/mo.
• Meet Lara (https://larasmahjongedit.com/pages/about): “the slightly-obsessed mahjong girl behind Lara’s Mahjong Edit.” Credentials: “OMM Certified American Mahjong Instructor. Member of the Mahj Life Instructor Guild. Trained by Mahjong Molly.” Stats printed there: 100K+ community; 1,000s students taught; Since ‘25 teaching mahjong.
• 2026 Card Season Hub (https://larasmahjongedit.com/pages/2026): “Your 2026 Card Command Center.” FAQ on that page: “Can I download the 2026 NMJL card here?” — No; “The official 2026 card comes directly from the National Mah Jongg League.” Same page: The 2026 Strategy Edit at $49 (6 video modules + worksheets; Live Q&A with Lara; included free for Confidence Club members); Confidence Challenge $12.99/month a la carte; Winds & Dragons Edit $24.99.

Notes

• American Mah Jongg / NMJL. Homepage, 2026 hub, Confidence Club FAQ, and Strategy Edit product are all NMJL-card American play. Do not list this as Riichi or as Chinese-family (Hong Kong / MCR) teaching. Homepage explicitly says tile-matching phone games are “not that.”
• Not the National Mah Jongg League, not Mahj Life (she is a Guild member; this is her own site), not Oh My Mahjong / Teach Mahjong (OMM is printed only as a certification), not School of American Mah Jongg.
• 2026 hub: this site does not sell or host a downloadable 2026 NMJL card. Companions only.
• Site, 2026 hub, Confidence Club, Strategy Edit product, For Teachers page, and both September 9–10 tickets loaded on 2026-09-03. Footer copyright 2026.
• Not affiliated with Mahjong Plaza.

FAQ

Q: Is this Japanese Riichi or Chinese mahjong?
A: No. The homepage defines American Mahjong as the US card-driven game with a 152-tile set, the NMJL card, jokers, and the Charleston. The 2026 hub and Confidence Club FAQ are built around the National Mah Jongg League card. Tile-matching solitaire is called out as a different game.

Q: Is this the National Mah Jongg League?
A: No. It is Lara Orndorff’s teaching brand (trade name Lara’s Mahjong Edit). The 2026 hub says the official card comes from the League and is not downloadable here. This site sells companion strategy, live Zoom classes, and memberships.

Q: What does a class cost, and is it in person?
A: Teaching is online Zoom (recordings included on the live-class tickets) plus self-paced digital guides. On 2026-09-03 the Confidence Club was $19.99/month or $199/year; the 2026 Strategy Edit was $49.00 (sold out); Start Your Own League on 2026-09-09 was $79.00 (sold out); Teaching Strategy on 2026-09-10 was $100.00 (sold out). Private lessons were listed at $100 / 60 minutes on a waitlist. Confirm the live-class calendar and product page before paying; those figures can change.
