What it is

Sunday Mahjong® is an online shop for American mahjong equipment, run by a husband-and-wife team in Georgia. Every tile design is hand-illustrated by the founder, artist Josh Avren, and the shop says its sets are designed in-house and sold only at sundaymahjong.com. It sells 160-tile acrylic sets, matching racks, neoprene and vegan leather mats, card sets and gifts.

Who it’s for

American mahjong players who want an artist-designed, collectible set and don’t mind preorders and limited runs, and gift shoppers looking for matching racks, mats or cards.

Why it’s listed

It is a first-party shop run by the designer, with its own cart, store policies and a public release schedule.

• Tile sets: the Tiles collection listed Sunday ($475), Nature Walk, Sunday Blues, Plum Panda and Mini Hummingbird ($495 each), Hummingbird ($525) and December 1994 ($549) on the check date. Several are preorders.
• What’s in a set: 160 acrylic tiles (including 8 flowers, 10 jokers and 6 blanks), engraved and then UV-printed, in a custom box with dice, a dice pouch and a vegan leather tile bag. Mats and racks are sold separately.
• Racks, mats and cards: sets of four 20-inch racks with magnetic pushers (Tortoise, Blonde Tortoise, Clear, Candy Blue, Sunday Cola and others), premium mats, and the shop’s own Sunday Card sets (51 hands, “no year, never expires”) plus a 12-hand Learn to Play card.
• Release schedule: a dedicated page lists each upcoming drop and restock (on 2026-10-19: Mini Hummingbird preorders open Sun Oct 25 at 1:00 p.m. ET; December 1994 tiles ship to preorders in November 2026; Sunday Emerald Green racks around Thanksgiving; Hummingbird and Plum Panda restocks in early 2027).
• Example set: the December 1994 preorder ($549, estimated to ship November 2026) is limited to one set per order and includes a matching card set.
• Shipping: orders usually take 1–6 business days to prepare; shipments come from the USA, and tile sets need a signature on delivery.

Notes

• Equipment listing: a shop for tiles, racks, mats and cards, not a place to play or learn.
• All sales final: the store policies say orders cannot be cancelled, changed or refunded, including preorders and orders whose shipping estimate moves. Damaged or defective items are replaced if reported within 7 days with a photo.
• Preorders and dates: release and shipping dates on the schedule are estimates and “subject to change”; several sets were preorder-only or closed on the check date.
• Sunday Card: the shop’s own card sets are separate from the annual National Mah Jongg League card; check which card your group uses.
• Not reviewed: other individual product pages, and mat, rack and card prices. Shopify rate-limited the December 1994 product page (HTTP 429 twice) before it returned 200 on a spaced retry on 2026-10-19.
• Image: the site’s own og:image (brand card with the bird logo), 1200×628, saved as sunday-mahjong.jpg.
• Not affiliated with Mahjong Plaza. No account, order, cart, form or contact was made.
